Easel - A strut attached to the end of a POS which folds out to enable the piece to stand up. Easels are usually of the double-wing or single-wing variety.
ECR - Efficient Consumer Response, an industry/food store effort to provide maximum consumer satisfaction with minimal structural cost by eliminating waste in ordering, replenishment, assortment and promotions through information technology.
E-Down - Emulsion down. Most film prepared for offset printing is e-down.
E-Up - Emulsion up. Film which is reproduced on another piece of film (either positive or negative) must be e-up, allowing the emulsion to be in contact with the exposed film. Also, silk-screening typically requires e-up film positive.
EFI Color - A Color Management System developed by Electronics for Imaging. Using device profiles for scanners, monitors, and color printers, EFI Color attempts to preserve the accuracy of a given color as it is converted from one device to another, and interpreted through the converted from one device to another, and interpreted through the color rendering capabilities (or color space) of each, In doing so, the goal is to standardize the specified color value and make it device-independent.
Electronic Imaging - The creation and manipulation of images digitally, with a computer.
Ellipses - Three dots (...) that indicate an omission, often used when omitting copy from quoted matter (option ; on a Mac).
Em - (typography) A square of the body size of any type, used as a unit of measure.
Embossing - Transferring an image into tag or board material by pressing with a negative die to create a raised or relief effect.
Em Fractions - (typography) Fractions on the em width that uses a diagonal stroke: 3/4.
Em Dash - (typography) A dash that is one em long: —
En - (typography) One half of an em.
En Dash - (typography) A dash one em long, half as long as an em dash: –
End-aisle Display - Display of a product on a retails shelf located at the end of an aisle.
End User - An individual who operates a computer.
Enhanced Post Print - A flexographic post print process enhanced by the addition of more colors.
EP - An acronym for Electronic Prepress.
EPS - Encapsulated Post Script is a file format used to transfer a PostScript image from one program to another. The file is comprised of the PostScript code and a PICT preview of the image.
Estimate - A best-guess calculation of what a good or service will cost. An estimate is not necessarily a bottom-line cost. It is not a quotation or a formal proposal. Print estimates are based on rough verbal specifica tions and are budget estimates only. More exact quotations can be furnished at such time as a comp or mechanical can be viewed by the printer.
Extender - All the type sizes and type styles of a particular typeface.
Extrusion Molding - A molding technique in which liquified material is forced through a die to obtain a finished product.
